Do Christians Today Have “Real Faith”?

My comments are in BOLD.

Once again we will look at an article by some Muslims and answer their simple questions.  They are not asking bad questions, but it is a good example of how dangerous it is when people fail to “rightly divide”.  The sad thing is that the writer of this article has probably never been shown the basics of “rightly dividing”.  We will look at who Christ is talking to and what He is talking about in these passages.  Christians (myself included) need to be better at getting the simple truths of Bible study out there to the lost world.

——————————————————————————————————————-

This is a simple challenge to the world’s 2 billion Christians. Prove that you have faith and demonstrate the power of that faith by fulfilling the promise of Jesus in the Gospels.

First off, there are not “2 billion Christians”.  1.3 billion are Roman Catholics.  Beyond that, you have huge numbers of Orthodox and other cultural Christians (along with various cults).  These poor souls aren’t anywhere near the Bible definition of “born again” (John 3:5-7) or what the Bible definition of a Christian is (Acts 11:26).  These people couldn’t care less about what the Bible says.

“He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.Nothing will be impossible for you.”” – Matthew 17:20

We’ll look at the correct KJB.  Mat 17:20 (AV) “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”  There’s not a ton of differences between the texts, but we refuse to compromise with the modern versions.  We believe the King James Bible just as Muslims believe the Arabic Quran.  No compromises.

“Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.” – Matthew 21:21

We’ll look at the correct KJB.  Mat 21:21 (AV) “Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.”

And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”” – Mark 16:17-18

We’ll look at the correct KJB.  Mark 16:17,18 (AV) “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

So this is the litmus test. Christians can prove the truth of their religion if they could perform such miracles. So here’s the challenge. Move Mount Everest from the Himalaya mountain range and drop it into the Indian ocean. Surely, at least ONE Christian out of the 2 BILLION Christians of the world can do this? Let us see if they can.

This is not the “litmus test” for today.  I understand why a Muslim would think so, but it isn’t.  These verses are all talking about SIGns.  Notice the connection between the word “sight” and “signs”.  Christians walk by faith not sight (II Cor 5:7).  These sings are not going to happen today because of what happened in the Book of Acts. In this book, God transitions from dealing primarily with the Jews to dealing primarily with the Gentiles.  Along with the change of people groups being dealt with, you will find a change in methods being employed.  The Jews require a sign.  1Co 1:22 (AV) “For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:” That is how God dealt with those people.

Go back to the life of Moses.  In Exodus, Moses wonders how the Jews will believe that God had sent him.  In chapter 4 of Exodus, God shows the signs that will make sure the Jews will believe.  Exo 4:29-31 (AV) “And Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel: And Aaron spake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the sight of the people. And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.”  The nation of Israel started with signs and they were right to demand signs.

All through Christ’s ministry, Jesus gave signs that he was the long awaited Messiah.  The dead were raised.  Lepers were healed.  The blind saw.  The lame walked.  How could he do theses signs and not be the Messiah?  But, the Jews rejected Him and His signs.  They crucified Christ and then in Acts they were given a few more chances.  There are signs abounding in Acts 2-7.  But the signs begin to taper off.  There are a few more healings.  A few more people speak in tongues.  But by the end of his life, Paul keeps a doctor with him (Luke) and recommends medicine to Timothy (I Tim 5:23) and he leaves his friend still sick (II Tim 4:20).  Why?  Because God has stopped dealing with the nation of Israel and is now going after Gentiles.  We are no longer in the time of the Gospels where Christ’s ministry was primarily to Jews (Matt 10:6, 15:24, Rom 15:8).  We are in a time period where God is calling primarily Gentiles to Christ through the words of preaching (Rom 10, I Cor 1, Titus 1:3, etc. etc. etc.).  Signs are gone.  This includes the signs promised in Matt 17, 21, and Mark 16.  They will come back in the Tribulation, after the Rapture of the Church, when God transitions back to dealing primarily with the nation of Israel.  Then the litmus test will be in effect once again.  But beware, the Antichrist will have signs, too.  (Rev 13, II Thess 2)

Until then, a Gentile would be fool to look for a sign like the ones promised by Christ.  He won’t get them.  To use this as an excuse to reject Christ and the Gospel is foolish.  Read Acts.  Notice how different the start is from the end of the book.  The reasons why Christians can’t move mountains today is clear.  Those promises are for someone else.

Muslim friend, the truth is there for you to get.  If you want it.  You can KNOW where you going when you die.  Muhammad taught you that you couldn’t know.  Aren’t you tired of not knowing if you will be good enough for God?  Repent of your self righteousness, believe that Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again.  Receive the man, Jesus Christ, the Son of God as your Saviour and you can have what the Bible calls, ETERNAL LIFE.

John 3:36 (AV) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

    1. It’s interesting to read this man’s rebuttal article but sadly predictable. He refuses to admit the truth that Roman Catholics and Orthodox people aren’t Christian by the Bible’s standards. He refuses to admit that the King James issue is important. He refuses to admit that the clear answer to his “litmus test” has been given. He wants to prove Islam, not the truth….

But he did quote Chris Farley, and we can all agree that that is fun.
